Haz-Mat pics

These are from a Haz-Mat incident we had a few weeks ago. The guys in the lime green suits are going in to take samples. The guys in the dark green suits are the Decon crew.

Here is a group of us watching the crews go in. The guy in the white shirt on the left is our Chief. I am the one on the far left.

Here I am helping "Herbie" get ready to go in and Decon the entry crew.

Fire Pics

Here are some fire pics for everyone. Enjoy

This is a few of us working on a roof top.

Here is a pic of fire blowing out of a gable vent in the roof.

This is some flame roll over just as we are entering.

And finally, this is what will happen if you park next to a hydrant. We love to do this so watch where you park.

O.T. Baby

Hello all. Today started out pretty crappy. As I was on my way out of the station this morning I got hit with overtime. It is awesome money but I would rather be home with the kids. So I am still at work, and have a ton of things to do at home. But my day did get better. We were really busy today. Actually it all started last night. I was on the Ambulance yesterday and we got a call early in the evening. Initially it was an unknown medical. When we arrived on scene it turned out to be a man who had burns all over his right hand. It doesn't sound like much, but when you consider how he got the burns, it is amazing he is still alive. The guy was doing who electrical work when he was hit by an arc from a 480 volt set of prongs. What saved the guy is all of the safety traing he had. He did everything he was taught and it kept the current from crossing his heart.

Today was pretty slow on calls but we had some really good training. We did some Confined Space work most of the day. It was really nice to get out of the station and work on some skills we don't do very often.

Again the weather is great and the kids are doing very well. They can't wait for me to get home so we can get out and play. I have to get back to work for now. I have had some people ask me to add so pics of the last fire I was on so I will do that later tonight. If there is anything anyone wants updates on or pics of lease let me know and I will get them on for ya. Take care

Boring Day

Not too much going on today, So I thought I would throw some pics for everyone to look at.

This is a picture of some RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) training. The sole purpose of a RIT team is to save lost or trapped Firefighters. I am the one sitting in the middle playing the victim.

This is a picture of me trying to hold a handline by myself on an icy driveway.

And finally these are some helmets of fellow Firefighters after a winter structure fire. All the ice build-up gets pretty heavy after a while.

June 27, 2005

Sorry I was unable to post any updates this past week. For some reason our internet was down at the house.

Well my weekend was pretty busy as usual. I got off work last Wed. and did some work around the yard for a bit. Around lunch time Hailey and I went to town to spend the rest of the day together. We went and got some lunch at Subway then went to the Harley shop to price leathers for her. We are going to buy her a set of chaps and a jacket for her to wear when we go riding on the motorcycle. After the Harley shop we did some gift shopping for Marianne's birthday. We bought her some cd's and some new camping gear. Hailey also picked out a Strawberry Shortcake cake for her. That evening we had a spaghetti dinner and celebrated Marianne's B-day.

Thurs. Marianne had to work so the kids and I played outside. The weather has been so nice we don't spend much time indoors. I took the kids over to see Uncle Brett. Brett is a guy I used to work with. He retired last month from the North Pole Fire Dept. The kids loved being over there. He fed them all the popcicles they could eat and they played with his dog. I traded Brett an old motorcycle I had for a Go-Kart. Brett Builds Choppers now that he is retired so he could use the bike, and I wanted a Go-Kart so I can take the kids for rides. They loved riding in it.

Fri. Brought more work around the house but we did get to go fish for a while. I caught a nice Grayling and included the pic. at the top of this post.

Sat. we all went to dinner at Boston's and watched movies at home. I spent most of the day cutting down trees and mending the fence at our place. Our dogs are so big that when they lean on the fence they bust the chain link from the posts.

Sun. was my day. I took the day off from work and went on a Motorcycle ride with Brett and Kraig. Kraig is a guy I grew up with and is now a Firefighter at NPFD. We rode from North Pole to the Chatinika Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast we rode to Thunder Road Cycles to meet up with some other guys and we all went to a car show in Fairbanks. We spent about 1 1/2 hours at the car show then rode around Farmers Loop. From there we went back to North Pole and went home. It was a very nice day for riding. We rode about 200 miles that day.

Today I am back at work. Not much going on. We have hade few calls and did some training. As usual the weather is great and I can't wait to go home. I get off Wed. and I am going on another ride that night. No too much planned for my next few days off. Other than the ride we will probably spend time with the kids and do some more fishing. Hope all is well for everyone.

This is it for tonight. I will post again tomorrow. C-ya

My New Bike

Summer Solstice

Today is the longest day of the year, and it sure felt like it. I am going on day 5 here at work. I get off tomorrow and get to go home. It has been a long week and we have been pretty busy. This shift started out slow as I stated in previous posts but quickly changed. We have spent lots of time sitting at the airfield for aircraft standbys, many fire alarms (all of which occured between the hours of 12 a.m. and 4 a.m.) and a heart attack. Thankfully the gentleman with the heart attack survived and should recover just fine. I will be spending most of my time off this week doing things around the house. I do plan on going fishing with the family sometime though.

It has been raining quite a bit the past few days. All of the rivers are up so we may try to get out on the boat.

I am still working on getting some pictures on here but it is going to take some work. I will post them as soon as I can.

As I said it has been very busy so I am going to go get some sleep while I can.

Take Care

Fathers Day

Hope all the dads have a good Fathers Day. I am at work today, again. Yesterday was a good day. We did not have too much going on. We did however have a good EMS call. Nothing too bad, a guy came by the station with a really bad laceration on his finger. The guy insisted on not going to the hospital so I did the the best I could to stop the bleeding. Every time I added more gauze blood would just soak through it. Finally I talked the guy into going to the hospital and he drove himself there. Later in the evening he stopped by to thank us for talking him into going. The doctors put 2 stitches in his digital artery and 7 stitches in his finger. The cut was a lot worse than he thought.

Today is a wet and rainy day. We were going to do some hose testing but with it raining like it is we are going to wait until tomorrow. I talked to the kids today and they are doing well. We are going to go to the Alaska Salmon Bake on Thurs. night for fathers day and Marianne's Birthday. The kids got me some good stuff for Fathers Day. I got a few things for my laptop and some Grateful Dead stuff.

I got a new motorcycle last week and can't wait to get out of here so I can go riding. I took Hailey for a ride around the neighborhood last Thurs. and she loved it. She used to enjoy going for rides on my old bike and really likes my new one. There is a bigger seat for her to ride on and she thinks the color is pretty. When I get paind next week we are going to go get her little chaps and a learther jacket. She keeps saying she wants them so she can look like daddy. I bought the bike off of a guy I work with. It is a 2003 Honda VTX 1300. I really want a Harley but I can't justify spendind the money on it right now when I can only ride for about 4 -5 months a year.

I am off. Hope everyone is doing well and has a good day

Comments

I have set this up so anyone can leave comments. If you have any questions or want me to post something particular let me know.

Back to work again

Well I am back to work. I am working overtime today and tomorrow so this is going to be a really long week. Hopefully it will be a quiet week. With the weather being as nice as it has been, nobody wants to be here. But we make the most of it by grilling outside each night, throwing horse shoes, shooting our bows and hitting some golf balls. It has been pretty quiet today... so far, I am on the ambulance and the most exciting thing we have had is a pregnant woman wanting to get her B/P checked. she said she is due any minute. I sure hope she waits till I get off before she goes into labor. For what is supposed to be such a beautiful moment it sure is messy in the back of a moving box.

Ok, enough about work. I was unable to update anything last week because I didnt feel like it. ha ha. Actually we were out of town most of the time. And when we were home Marianne had a Honey-do list a mile long for me.

We did not make it down to the Gulkana River like we planned but we did got to the lake. There were no trophy fish caught, or any worth bragging about for that matter, but we did catch a lot. The kids had such a good time. Willie chased our new puppy around and Hailey caught tons of fish. Yes I did say we got another dog. I didn't want another one but my wants don't usually count. Marianne picked up a Jack Russell puppy named Rebel. He is 8 weeks old and seems to be a good dog. He gets along great with the kids and they love him. And that is really all that counts. Aside from me having to feed the thing. Anyways, back to the fishing, Hailey caught the biggest one, a Rainbow Trout about 23 1/2 inches long. Not a monster but a good fight for Hailey. She still won't touch a fish but she will fight them all day. Will spent most of the day chasing the puppy in and out of the water. He "helped" me with a few fish and loved it. He has no problem touching the fish, infact he can't keep his hands off them. He also can't keep his hands off the shrimp, he will eat the whole tray if you don't watch him. I like to fly fish but the kids aren't old enought to do that yet so I invented a shrimp jig for them to use. It works great but starts a lot of fights. People always come up and ask what the kids are using. I tell them shrimp but thats about it. I won't tell they how I rig it up or what else I use so when they don't catch anything they get angry. Especially when they see a 4 1/2 year old girl catching a fish on just about every cast.

The weather has been great. It is about 80 dergrees in the day and 65 - 70 at night. Although it is never really night. It looks the same at 2 a.m. as it does at 2 p.m. The sun never sets this time of year.

Well I have to hit the sack now. I will post pictures of our fishing trip later, and will write more tomorrow.

Too nice outside

Today is a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky and the temp is right around 75 degrees. It is too nice to be stuck here at work. Not too much excitement at work today, just the normal station chores so far. I can't wait to get off work tomorrow morning. This weekend I hope to take the family down to the Gulkana River to do some fishing. This will be the first time I take my son fishing, and I can't wait to see how he reacts. He has gone to the lake with us a few times for picnics and such, and just loves being outside. Hopefully we will have good luck. My daughter loves to fish but I doubt she will get to put a line in the water. The Kings are running now and they are just too big for her to handle. The average fish being landed down there run about 50 -60 lbs. At 4 years old they would probably just pull her in or she will lose the rod all together. I will however let her "help" me land them.

I briefly spoke to my wife this morning and everyone is doing well. They don't have much planned for today, just enjoying the nice weather. Maxi, our dog ( we have 2, both English Mastiffs ) is fully recovered. She was very sick last week and we thought we might lose her. She is starting to put weight back on so we are happy.
